A Review of the "Preserved Tablet" and its Whatness According to the Commentators of the Two Main Islamic Sects

Abstract

The "Preserved Tablet" - sometimes called "um al-Kitab" - and "Kitab al-Maknun", has been introduced against the "Tablet of Erasing and Creating" and is another level of the revelation of the Qur'an. The issues on the "Preserved Tablet" are unchangeable and impervious to imperfection but they can be real. This paper examines the "Preserved Tablet" and its whatness according to the commentators of the two main Islamic sects. The method of collecting materials in this research is library and the research method is descriptive-analytical. According to the findings of this study, the "Preserved Tablet" (a page of light) is the infinite divine knowledge which is the reference for the issuance of all the divine books of different religions which the destinies of all the universes were written before its existence. In this paper, the opinions and views as well as the traditions about the "Preserved Tablet" has been gathered and related topics, and according to Quranic verses and various Shi'a and Sunni interpretations, the best and most reliable opinions about the "Preserved Tablet" have been mentioned.
