Semantic Analysis of "Heavenly Couples" in the Qur'an

Abstract

The content of some Quranic verses indicates the existence of "Heavenly couples" in heaven in the hereafter as one of the blessings of the heaven. Considering the use of the word "couples" for "worldly secular wives", some considered the meaning of this word and similar words as the existence of "wives for those in the heaven" and this has led to worldly implications for it. Therefore, the present research seeks to answer the main question: What is the semantic analysis of "Heavenly Couples" in the Quran? The research approach is interpretive and the content processing is with "descriptive-analytical" method and the information gathering method is from library and software. The findings of the study are as following: "Heavenly Marriage" does not mean "worldly secular marriage" which has material implications; rather, it refers to the "companionship of heavenly ones with their peers". And the meaning of the verses that directly or indirectly express one of the material implications for "Heavenly Couples" is the apparent meaning of the verses, and some commentators have limited themselves to interpreting the apparent meaning of the verses in order to bring the matter closer to the audience.
