Abstract

Although mockery and humiliation with speech and action may seem reprehensible and contrary to human dignity, but by referring to the Qur'anic teachings and examining the attributions of mockery to God Almighty, we can see that the nature of divine mockery is different from human mockery. This kind of mockery which is for detention and punishment from God is not only reprehensible; but it is necessary. Therefore, in answer to the question of the quality and manner of divine mockery in examining and following the commentators of the main two Islamic sects, which was done in a descriptive-analytical way, it became clear that the truth of divine mockery with all its implications cannot be considered the same as human mockery. And it must be interpreted in some way. After examining the commentaries of the main two Islamic sects it became clear that divine mockery cannot be unreasonable and unjustified, but its reasons are: punishment of scoffers, showing the mockery by the hypocrites is fruitless, the tradition of giving a chance and opportunity, criticizing the scoffers, the difference between the results of the hypocrites' actions and what they have done in the world, and so forth. The Divine mockery of the hypocrites will be both in this world and in the Hereafter; in this world, by criticizing them and increasing their doubts and in the Hereafter with a painful torment.
