Abstract

This study elucidates the meaning, purpose, and profound significance of the four oaths in Surah Al-Tin. Using a descriptive-analytical method, the article compares relevant Qur’anic verses and narrations in classical exegetical works. The research data and citations were gathered through library-based research. The findings indicate that while the Holy Quran and authentic Islamic texts explicitly name only four divine books, this surah alludes to the places of revelation for four prophets and their respective scriptures. Specifically, "the fig and the olive" symbolize the places of revelation and supplication for Jesus (PBUH) and David (PBUH), respectively, while "Mount Sinai" and "the Secure City" refer to the sites of the revelation of the Torah and the Holy Quran. The research concludes that, despite scholarly differences in interpreting the first two oaths, the surah collectively delineates the revelation of four foundational scriptures. It thereby outlines the four stages of divine law and articulates a path for human transcendence—guided by sacred law through the stages of servitude toward the perfected state of innate human nature (fitrah).
